Abstract

The number of diseases of the biliary system is growing from year to year on a global scale. The study of functional and pathological disorders of the biliary system is the subject of this century (3,4,5). This led to an increase in the number of diagnostic and therapeutic instrumental manipulations in the extrahepatic bile ducts in general, and in the duodenal papilla of Vater in particular (1,2,6). However, the percentage of complications of these manipulations remains significantly, high. At the top of the papilla of Vater, the mouth of its ampulla opens, through which a mixture of bile and pancreatic juice is released into the intestine. The intensive development of endoscopic techniques has significantly accelerated and expanded the scope of these interventions. This led to some delay in the morphological substantiation of these manipulations. Therefore, one of the topical issues of the biliary system morphology is the study of the structural components of the ampulla of the Vater papilla, especially its orifice, where endoscopic instrumental manipulations are most often performed (7,8,9).
