The article substantiates the relevance of studying a foreign language by students of technical specialties. Such concepts as competence, professional competence, communicative competence, professional foreign language communicative competence are revealed. The features of foreign language training of students of technical universities are also determined. Various types of practical classes used by foreign language teachers are described, as well as new pedagogical technologies that ensure the effective formation of foreign language competence of students of technical specialties are presented.
